United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: ICS Pre Placement Coordinator

The Global Volunteering Team have a vacancy for two International Citizen Service (ICS) Pre Placement Coordinators, one is permanent, the other short term cover for at least 3 months or until the post holder returns to their role. This exciting and challenging position is part of a small team who ensure that all aspects of ICS volunteer recruitment and preparation for travel meets Tearfund and ICS exacting standards.

ICS is a Department for International Development (DfID) funded programme for 18-25 year olds from the UK and in country, providing a 12 week placement with Tearfund partners for UK and in country volunteers. Tearfund is part of an 11 agency consortium working together to deliver this programme on behalf of DfID. The suitable applicant must have a genuine interest in young adults who are seeking to be challenged through the ICS programme, to begin a lifelong journey as active citizens. For volunteers in the UK this is typified by an ongoing engagement with Tearfund and for in country volunteers a deeper understanding of their crucial role as Christians in the development of their nation.

This is a payment by results contract with DfID and so the successful candidate will be able to prove that they have experience of successfully delivering on clear objectives. Strong proven coordination of complex issues and people, ideally young volunteers, is essential. The ability to respond confidently to a range of questions from volunteers, parents and other consortium members would be a considerable advantage. Experience in an overseas development or humanitarian setting, is also a considerable advantage.

The successful candidate will have strong organisational and administration skills and an understanding of monitoring, evaluation and impact of programmes. They will need to be able to demonstrate an ability to think creatively. Whilst delivering training and briefings they will need to be able to adapt to quick onset change and manage volunteer and partner questions and concerns.

This role is initially until the summer 2018 but with potential for extension subject to further donor funding for the programme. This is an exciting time to be part of this innovative and successful programme as it continues to learn and make changes and as it embarks into a second phase of ICS.

All applicants must be committed to Tearfund’s Christian beliefs.
