The University of Greenwich delivers high quality teaching and carries out research that is outstanding. Our staff and students regularly win awards; recent prize winners include the recipient of a national tourism prize and a Student Midwife of the Year, while the Natural Resources Institute was recently awarded the Queens Anniversary Prize.

The University is seeking an ambitious senior academic to take over the role of Head of Department of Psychology, Social Work and Counselling, which is located in the Faculty of Education and Health at the Avery Hill Campus but will be moving to the Greenwich Maritime Campus in 2017-18 which ‘The Independent’ newspaper described as “more breathtaking than the Versailles of Louis XIV”.

The university is committed to the continued development of psychology, social work and counselling which has approximately 40 staff and delivers highly successful undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to over 600 students on 8 programmes including three programmes accredited by the BPS as conferring eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC), two qualifying Social Work programmes and an MSc in Counselling which accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).  The department has a strong and expanding research base in psychology and 11 staff were included in a submission to REF2014. The university intends to appoint a research active senior academic with strong evidence of leadership, a good record of publishing and a commitment to leading excellence in teaching and high quality research.

The University will favour candidates with a record of staff management, a strong record in research and experience of teaching at undergraduate levels.

Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Pam Maras (Head of Department) Email: P.F.Maras@gre.ac.uk; Telephone 020 8331 9627.
