The Department of Health, Psychology and Social Studies are seeking to appointment a Lecturer in Social Science ( suitable backgrounds include Psychology / Sociology / Human Geography / Political Science / Philosophy / Social Work) for an 18 month vacancy. We seek enthusiastic applicants who can provide excellent teaching and learning experiences to students undertaking qualifying and post registration social work courses. You need to have an appreciation of how contemporary social sciences can be taught effectively. The role involves preparing and delivering lectures, providing tutorial support, supervising dissertations and assessing academic work. Module leadership will also be required. Developing an interest in and promoting research, writing for publication and developing business engagement opportunities is also to be expected. You will also have an opportunity to teach on other courses within the department suitable to your expertise.


The Department of Health, Psychology and Social Studies provides HCPC approved education opportunities in Social Work, Occupational Therapy, and Physiotherapy. We also offer degree programmes in Youth Work, Psychology, working with children and families & working with older adults. In addition we have a suite of post graduate qualifications including master’s programmes in child and adolescent mental health and evidenced based psychological therapy. Professional and statutory regulatory bodies review and approve many of our courses.


The department thrives on its close and supportive relationship with colleagues which can be evidenced by the caring ethos embraced by all. Social work staff are drawn from a wide practice and academic community with expertise in mental health, domestic violence, and child and family work. Research interest draw upon philosophy, values and ethics, direct practice with children and young people and evidenced based approaches to care. We are keen to expand this area of work and can provide research mentoring and line management support for all. 


Incremental progression up to £35,608 applies, subject to University policy
