Research Assistant

King

King’s College London – Department of Psychological Medicine

Summary

The Health Protection Research Unit in Emergency Preparedness and Response at King’s College London has recently obtained funding for a series of studies to improve the mental health advice given to victims of disasters and terrorism. We are looking for a motivated Research Assistant to work across these studies. This will involve conducting systematic reviews of the literature, helping to design and analyse a telephone survey of public attitudes towards data protection following a major incident, supervising MSc students working in this area and liaising with external stakeholders to ensure our work is relevant and useful. They will also be expected to assist with other projects that are taking place within the Unit, as the need arises. The post holder will be part of a small team based in the Denmark Hill campus of King’s College London.

Details

Applicants should have a BSc 2.1 or higher in psychology or a related discipline, excellent written and interpersonal skills and experience in conducting systematic reviews, designing questionnaires and analysing quantitative data. An MSc in a relevant area would be a bonus, but is not essential.

The post will allow the applicant to develop their research skills still further in one of Europe’s top academic institutes for psychiatry and psychology. It is an ideal spring board for a career in research and would suit someone with the motivation to pursue a career in this area.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 16 March 2016.

Equality of opportunity is College policy.

Salary

The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications, within the Grade 5 scale, currently £27,328  to £30,738, per annum plus £2,323 per annum London Allowance.

Post duration

Fixed term contract for 12 months.
