Research Associate: Mental Health

Three years fixed term


The overall aim of this post is to work with the multidisciplinary research team to support funding applications that seek to develop clinically relevant research in community, primary care and specialist mental health.


You will be responsible for working with the Research Institute’s (RI) Professor of Psychiatry and Professor of General Practice Research, to support the development of high quality clinically relevant research in community, primary care and specialist mental health. You will also collaborate with research staff at South Staffs and Shropshire Foundation Trust (SSSFT) to develop and deliver joint funding applications.


You will support the writing of funding applications, and undertake research studies which are embedded within the RI and SSSFT Research Programmes, developing interventions and packages of care to optimise community and specialist management of people with co-morbid mental and long-term physical health conditions.


You will have a PhD in a relevant health related discipline (or be within 3 months of submission with a view to being awarded within 6 months of appointment), or have equivalent experience in the design, analysis and writing up of research studies, along with presentation of mixed research methods. You will work well within a multidisciplinary research team, and have demonstrable organisation skills. Good time management skills and the ability to work independently are also essential. In addition, having a track record of publications in high quality journals is desirable. The ability to meet the travel requirements of the role is essential.
