Postgraduate Research Assistant in Structural Plasticity with Learning

An opportunity for a research assistant position is available in the Plasticity Group at the FMRIB Centre. The Plasticity Group is a multidisciplinary group of researchers with a common interest in brain plasticity. You will be involved in projects investigating structural plasticity in rodents using behavioural tasks, MRI and histological techniques. The project PI is Professor Heidi Johansen-Berg and the line-manager will be Dr Cassandra Sampaio-Baptista.


Your duties will include jointly developing detailed experimental protocols for rodent studies of learning and plasticity; acquiring histological data, MR imaging, EEG rodent data and preforming data and statistical analysis. You will also carry out administrative duties relating to approvals and management of the studies.


You will hold at least an undergraduate qualification in neuroscience, psychology or in a similar field. Expertise of behavioural assessments and tasks in rodents and a UK Home Office Personal License is essential. You will also be able to work independently and co-operate with other members of the research team. Previous experience in immunohistochemistry techniques, microscopy and or MRI analysis is desirable.


The position is available from 1 March 2016 (or soon after) for a fixed-term of 2 years in the first instance.
