This is an exciting and vital role within CARE International UK (CIUK) communications team. You will be pivotal in ensuring CIUK’s press and PR functions run smoothly and that we are able to respond quickly to the media demands of a humanitarian crisis as well as sustain press interest in our integrated campaigns to drive awareness and fundraising. You will also liase with colleagues across the global CARE confederation to achieve our overall aim of achieving lasting change for women and girls and their communities.


About you


You will need to be energetic and proactive with a passion for fighting poverty and social injustice. With substantial experience of working in a press team or news room, you will be persuasive and confident in dealing with media and other contacts internally and externally and have a proven track record of delivering quality coverage and creative, successful PR plans. You will also be able and willing to undertake periodic international travel sometimes at short notice and to remote locations.


About the role


You will line manage and support a press team of two overseeing daily news output and fundraising publicity, plus temporarily an Asia-based communications officer for one year. You will develop relationships with key journalists and influencers and press team colleagues in other organisations and coalitions such as other NGOs and DEC. You will also arrange and carry out case study collections trips to gather multi-media materials.


You will need excellent news sense, written and verbal skills and be able to simplify complex information for the media and other external audiences. You will be able to work under pressure and be a good team player and lead on communications support for Women’s Economic Empowerment and Private Sector Engagement which are priority areas.
