Associate Tutors - Organizational Psychology


Purpose and Main Duties


The Department of Organizational Psychology in the School of Business, Economics & Informatics seeks up to 2 part-time fixed term Associate Tutors to provide seminar teaching for the following module beginning January 2016:


Learning and Development


The module takes place on Wednesday evenings and runs from 6-9pm. Seminar delivery takes place from 7.30pm-9.00pm and you will also observe the main lecture which is delivered by an academic from the Department from 6-7.30pm.


These positions are subject to sufficient student enrolment and contribute to the MSc programmes in Occupational Psychology and Organizational Behaviour.


Under academic supervision associate tutors assist in the delivery of the module to facilitate successful completion of students’ studies. Each Associate Tutor appointed normally prepares and conducts seminar group(s) on the module along with marking of the written work produced by students on the module (which may include coursework, presentations and/or exam scripts) and responding to students’ queries either via email or in class. You will be required to engage in the scholarship necessary to ensure good practice in teaching and to apply appropriate levels of knowledge in the subject areas to be taught. Most incumbents of roles at this level will be employed in a developing capacity and will be undertaking this work in parallel with postgraduate studies.


Successful applicants who are new to teaching may be required to take the College’s Graduate Certificate in Teaching & Supporting Learning in Higher Education or attend the College’s ‘Fundamentals of Teaching’ course.


Candidate Requirements


The successful candidate will, in addition to the criteria laid out in the role profile attached, have demonstrable specialist disciplinary knowledge in the Occupational Psychology/Organizational Behaviour and be able to work within defined, established teaching programmes. They should hold an MSc in Occupational Psychology or a related area and are likely to be working towards a PhD in a related area.


They will have a good understanding of the needs of part-time adult learners and the ability to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm.


They will have effective oral and written communication skills to convey both simple and more complex information and academic concepts and have confident presentation and I.T. skills combined with the ability to clearly and effectively pass on specialist subject area knowledge.


They will have good organisational and administrative skills, be willing to engage in reflective practice and have the ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently as appropriate.

Remuneration: Payment is based on an hourly rate of £38.96 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 6 and is inclusive of a Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier which covers preparation, teaching and administration in connection with the course. This rate increases to £48.70 per hour where you are required to undertake the assessment marking on the modular occurrence.
