Research within the marketing department examines challenges facing marketing in our rapidly changing world and the impact of this change on individual, organisational and societal behaviours. We are seeking new doctoral students to join our research community to further advance understanding of this change transformation to inform marketing theory, practice and policy-making. Within this our research is eclectic, spanning consumer and organisational behaviour, digital marketing, branding and marketing communications. Examples of current research include digital engagement and exclusion; C2C communication reflecting changing social behaviours and new technologies; the digitalisation of SMEs in Europe; co-creation of value including within digital communities; overcoming barriers to ethical and sustainable consumption; experiential consumption and co-creation in tourism and retailing; tourists and their ‘meaningful’ places; cross-cultural co-creation of gift giving; political marketing communication to engage ‘difficult’ audiences;  strategic brand co-creation; deconstructing brand communities; the strategic impact of branded content. Recent marketing doctoral bursaries include the areas of neuromarketing and consumption evaluation, cross-cultural retro-product consumption and cross-cultural experiential gift-giving.

We particularly encourage applications wishing to explore the impact of change on marketing -for individual, organisational or societal behaviours. Applicants are welcome from relevant and complementary subject areas such as communication, media, psychology, sociology, or technology as well as from marketing and business disciplines.
