United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Emergency Response Security Manager


We are currently looking for an Emergency Response Security Manager, this field based role could be located anywhere Save the Children currently has an office and is offered on the basis of a 2 year contract.


As our Emergency Response Security Manager you will develop and ensure the systematic application of safety and security management policies and procedures in our global humanitarian responses. You will also continually assess global threats and provide risk management advice to our international programming team and Regional/Country offices. Key to this role is the ability to work effectively with the humanitarian and response teams in order to cultivate capacity and motivation; ensuring field-based responsibility for security analysis and management.


To be successful in this role you’ll bring substantial security management experience in the NGO sector, within complex and insecure settings and preferably in more than one country. You’ll have a proven ability to take a leadership role in crisis situations, and be able to develop the role of security risk management within our international programmes. You’ll also be willing and able to travel to often difficult and insecure environments, and change work hours and practices in the event of a major humanitarian emergency.


On a personal level you’ll have a strong cultural awareness and the tenacity to succeed in a highly matrixed global organisation.

The organisation


We employ approximately 17,000 people and work on the ground in over 60 countries to help children affected by crises, or those who need better healthcare, education and protection. We also campaign and advocate at the highest levels to realise children’s rights and ensure their voices are heard.


In 2014 Save the Children responded to 130 humanitarian emergencies, reaching 4.3 million children affected by conflicts, disease outbreaks, floods and cyclones.
