Clinical Research Fellow (GI Physiology Unit – Colorectal service)

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical research Fellow (GI Physiology) within the Centre for Neuroscience and Trauma in the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London. The Blizard Institute is the largest institute of Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry and aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service. An exciting opportunity to undertake cutting-edge research leading to an MD[Res], or preferably a PhD, is available for a motivated colorectal surgical trainee within the GI Physiology Unit (GIPU) and National Centre for Bowel Research and Surgical Innovation (NCBRSI), part of the Blizard Institute

This clinical project, within our internationally renowned centre, will be centred on a more contemporary assessment of patients with pelvic floor disorders (characterised by symptoms of faecal incontinence and constipation), to better understand pathophysiology and ultimately management of these conditions, by using established, advanced, and novel radiological and (neuro) physiological diagnostic techniques. Appropriate training in these techniques will be provided, along with senior academic supervision. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to GI Physiology Unit and colorectal surgical outpatient clinical service delivery, and will have a small teaching role.

Candidates must be medically qualified, with FRCS / MRCS or equivalent, and have completed Basic Surgical Training. A period of Higher Surgical Training would be desirable.

The post is full-time for 1 year in the first instance, starting as soon as possible, renewable for a further 1 – 2 years subject to funding. Starting salary will be in the range of £31,301 – £43,434 per annum plus London Allowance. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
