Rail Enforcement Officer: Thameslink Route (North) - Govia Thameslink Railway - Blackfriars Station

We’ll be running Great Northern (which connects King’s Lynn, Cambridge and Peterborough), Thameslink, which runs between Bedford, Luton, Sevenoaks, Gatwick and Brighton and Southern and Gatwick Express providing train services for commuters, airport users, business and leisure travellers between Central London and the South coast, through East and West Sussex, Surrey and parts of Kent and Hampshire.

We are recruiting for a rare opportunity as a Rail Enforcement Officer to provide a professional uniformed presence on board trains and at stations. As a Rail Enforcement Officer you will work in conjunction with both contracted Security Staff and British Transport Police Officers to deter crime and anti social behaviour and provide outstanding levels of customer service to passengers whilst supporting GTR staff as required.


Rail Enforcement Officers will assist with crowd control and respond to emergencies, providing support where required to the police and other emergency services. You will ensure compliance with the Criminal Law, the Conditions of Carriage and the railway byelaws by people on the railway, minimising fare evasion and supporting other team members in their responsibilities. Act as an authorised collector within the GTR Penalty Fare Scheme an issue tickets to travel as well as issuing Penalty Notices for Disorder and Fixed Penalty Notices in accordance with the law.


Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate some, if not all of the below requirements;


Previous experience handling cash.


Evidence of being able to deal with a high level of customer contact


Be able to pass British Transport Police vetting process.


Ability to remain calm, stable and in control when challenged and comfortable dealing with challenging situations.


You will be required to go through an accreditation process with the British Transport Police (similar to a CRB check)
