Director of Client Services (Senior Account Director)

Access Ambition are seeking to recruit a new Director of Client Services on behalf of a leading direct marketing agency offering a variety of fundraising services to the charity sector. This is a key post and forms part of the Senior Management Team (SMT), reporting directly into the Chief Executive. The successful applicant will go on to have up to 10 direct reports and will help define the fundraising strategy of the agency’s largest clients, supporting the Account Directors to develop effective plans to deliver these.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in Direct Marketing and database strategy with strong knowledge of the charity fundraising sector. Both candidates who have worked in an agency environment and those with relevant and transferable in-house charity fundraising experience will be considered.

The main responsibilities of the Director of Client Services post are:

• Developing strategy, pitches and proposals to win new clients


• Establishing client account plans in concert with the Account Directors, managing the process to ensure a focused & disciplined approach to growing revenues from the existing client base


• Achieving personal sales targets and supporting the Account Director team to achieve theirs


• Managing the client service assessment and review process, driving exceptional service levels and ensuring proactive management of risk and issues


• Line management of the Account Director team, ensuring the training and development needs of the team are met

The main requirements for the Director of Client Services position are:

• Proven ability to exceed financial targets – delivering client and portfolio growth, including on £1m+ accounts


• Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the charity fundraising sector, including recent issues concerning direct marketing conducted by and on behalf of UK charities


• If from an agency environment, at least 3 years’ experience at Account Director level


• If from an in-house non-profit environment, demonstrably relevant and suitably senior experience including delivering steep revenue targets through effective line management


• Authoritative, confident and decisive character with ability to inspire and manage people of all seniority levels
