Postdoctoral Research Assistant
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the appointment of a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to support a large multi-centre, cross-council (AHRC/RCUK) Connected Communities programme grant which is being co-ordinated by the University of Nottingham:
Creative Practice as Mutual Recovery: Connecting Communities for Mental Health and Well-Being.
This large programme will investigate how creative practice in the arts and humanities (e.g. visual arts, music, narrative) could be a powerful tool for bringing together a range of social actors and communities of practice in the field of mental health, encompassing a diversity of people with mental health needs, informal carer and health, social care and education personnel, to establish and connect communities in a mutual or reciprocal fashion to enhance mental health and well-being.
The Research Assistant will be primarily responsible for comparative analysis of narrative data during year 3 of the project. This appointment will be on the Synthesis and Comparative Analysis work package based at Queen Mary University of London, and will involve analyzing large datasets using qualitative and quantitative methods derived from applied linguistics.
We are looking for a researcher with advanced practical and creative skills and research experience in the humanities (linguistics or applied linguistics), arts and/or creative therapies. They will be able to demonstrate an ability to be methodical in data analysis and project organization, and be able to contribute to development of papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals. We would welcome applications from people who have experience of mental health services, as a practitioner, carer or service-user.
The successful candidate will liaise closely with staff in the School of Language, Linguistics and Film at Queen Mary University of London, key staff in partner NHS Trust, national service user and carer organisations, and academic and clinical experts who value the contribution of creative practice to mental health recovery.
The post is full time, fixed term appointment for 12 months, with an expected start date of January 2016. Starting salary will be in the range of £29,610 – £33,811 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
