United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Portfolio Management Office (PMO) Lead - nr London

The Organisation

Plan International is an independent child rights and humanitarian organisation committed to children living a life free of poverty, violence and injustice. We actively unite children, communities and other people who share our mission to make positive lasting changes in children’s and young people’s lives. We support children to gain the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to claim their rights to a fulfilling life, today and in the future. We place a specific focus on girls and women, who are most often left behind. We have been building powerful partnerships for children for more than 75 years, and are now active in more than 70 countries.

The Role

Plate spinners wanted! You will be responsible for project managing the whole portfolio of Plan International’s global change projects which are managed through the Human Resources and Organisation Development department. These include major transformational change projects which will fundamentally change the way Plan International operates. This presents a ‘greenfield’ opportunity – you will design Plan International’s PMO methodology from scratch, develop the tools to be used, decide how the projects are reported on, and ensure that all current and future projects are managed accordingly. A true portfolio approach is required – ensuring that all change projects are managed comprehensively and cohesively, with resources used effectively and efficiently. This is a high-profile role in a major organisation going through transformational change – a new CEO, a new Strategy, a new focus on girls’ rights – and you will directly contribute to help to build this brave new world as Plan International moves into the next stage of its life-cycle.

The Person

You will be an experienced professional project manager with demonstrable experience of managing numerous projects across complex, ideally international organisations. Your experience should cover major transformational change projects – this is not a system implementation role. You will need to be disciplined, organised and proactive. Project Management qualifications/training (Prince II, Agile etc) is strongly preferred. Exposure to the NGO sector would be a bonus but is by no means a requirement.

Just don’t drop those plates…
