Summary
The successful candidate will work on an exciting new Sparks and Batten Disease Family Association funded project to determine the impact of gene therapy upon neuropathological changes in a sheep model of neuronal ceroid lipofuscinois or Batten disease. The candidate will be responsible for cutting and staining fixed brain tissue for a series of neuropathological markers and using quantitative morphological methods to assess therapeutic efficacy and supporting the research of other members of the team. In addition, the post holder will be expected to assist more senior researchers, including PhD and MSc students.
Details
We are seeking a diligent and highly motivated candidate with a relevant undergraduate degree and/or Masters degree and previous experience of histological analysis of brain tissue, performing immunohistological and other staining methods, and how to extract quantitative information using stereological and other image analysis methods and confocal microscopy. The primary purpose of the role is to perform this analysis blind to genotype and treatment status on fixed brain tissue supplied by our collaborators in New Zealand.

Interviews are provisionally scheduled to be held on week of 18 January 2016.

Salary
The appointment will be made at Grade 5, currently £27,328 per annum, plus £2,323 per annum London Allowance.
Post duration: Fixed term contract for 12 months.
