Research Associate/Fellow


Location: Jubilee Campus


Salary: £25,769 to £37,768 per annum, pro rata depending on skills and experience (minimum £28,982 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance


The Institute of Mental Health is seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual to assist the Project Co-ordinator in running a four-year collaborative EU Marie Curie Innovative Training Network project, INDUCT (Interdisciplinary Network for Dementia Utilising Contemporary Technology), funded at €3.8m. The INDUCT network includes six international partners from the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal and Sweden and will train fifteen Early Career Researchers in dementia care and technology.


INDUCT works with INTERDEM, a large international collaboration with academic training and development opportunities for researchers in dementia care. The Project Co-ordinator, Professor Martin Orrell, leads a dementia care research group of 25 staff working between London and Nottingham.


The successful candidate will provide a key role in the overall co-ordination and implementation of the project, ensuring that it is managed in strict accordance with the funder requirements. This will include assisting the project partners, maintaining project records (including financial records) and website, preparing formal reporting, organising consortium meetings and providing general support to the Project Co-ordinator.


Candidates should have a PhD in Psychology, Health Psychology or related discipline (or be within one year of completion), and have past experience of working in the field of dementia care and research. The successful candidate will have effective project management, organisational, written and verbal communication skills, ability to produce scientific outputs for publication in peer reviewed journals, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. An ability to interact well with academic and industrial partners both in UK and overseas is important, as are a flexible approach to working hours and willingness to travel abroad.


This challenging management role in a major, complex EU project in a thriving and growing department will also include opportunities for research.


This post is available from 1st March 2016 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 4 years.
