An experienced SEN Primary Teacher is needed in a ‘Good’ SEN School located in Brent, North London.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Primary SEN Teacher who has worked recently with children who have Complex Needs/ASD and EBD. You will be able to work with pupils in small groups and 1:1 encouraging and assisting them in their academic development. Ideally you will have worked across Key Stage 1 phase and will understand how important it is to tailor education to specific needs. The class you will be teaching is a mixed Early Years and Key Stage 1 group; the class is made up of 16 pupils and you will be teaching them in tandem with another teacher. You will also be supported by 4 Learning Support Assistants. Ideally the school are seeking an experienced SEN practitioner as the current class teacher is an experienced Primary teacher but has only made the step into an SEN school environment in the last 12 months.

The school is a small and welcoming SEN Primary that provides an education to a very small number of Primary aged pupils who have social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. The growing majority of the pupils have been diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorders and other complex learning needs.

The behaviour of pupils is outstanding. Despite their often complex learning and behavioural difficulties, almost every pupil displays an extremely positive attitude toward learning.
Classrooms are quiet and industrious and the pupils are relaxed and interested in their activities. This is largely due to the excellent management of behaviour and engaging teaching.

Where necessary, pupils have a detailed behaviour plan to tailor relationships in the classroom and outside. These are very regularly reviewed and updated. Pupils with the potential for challenging behaviour are thus successfully kept from undue anxiety and their learning and personal needs are carefully catered for.

As the school has become more proficient in this, the number of incidents related to weak behaviour has declined very sharply and there are very few disturbances to learning. There is a very positive atmosphere in the school. The pupils socialise happily in classrooms, in the playground and in the dining room.

Staff set an excellent example through their own behaviour and all staff are extremely vigilant in praising good behaviour and carefully and patiently explaining why certain actions are not acceptable. This results in a happy learning environment where the pupils thrive.

If you are interested in this position then please apply with an up to date CV.
