What is the project about? We have recently received funding from the International Olympic Committee to conduct a cluster randomised control trial that will develop and test an intervention to prevent current and future willingness to dope in adolescent sport. The project’s main aim is to help coaches share existing anti-doping resources and communicate about doping with their athletes in ways that support athletes’ psychological needs and adaptive types of motivation. We will compare our intervention against ‘usual practice’ (i.e., education programs run by National Anti-Doping Organizations).

Who is conducting the research? This is a multi-country project with research teams in Australia (Curtin University, Perth), the UK (Leeds Beckett University, Leeds) and Greece (Aristotle University, Thessaloniki), with internationally acknowledged expertise on doping and motivation research.

What will be involved for the post-doc/research associate? The successful candidate will be based exclusively in Perth and will be responsible for the research activities in Perth, but will also facilitate overall project management across the three countries.  He/she will manage the day-to-day tasks associated with this project, examples of which are: participant recruitment, preparation of study materials, travelling locally for data collection, practical arrangements for workshops, carrying out interviews, management of on-line material for the intervention, qualitative and quantitative data entry and management, and assistance with project reporting and dissemination of the project results (e.g., brochures of the findings).

What is the remuneration and length of employment? For a PhD holder, the annual salary will be about AUD $83K. For applicants with a Masters or a first degree it will be about AUD $65K. Additional staff benefits can be found on Curtin University’s website. The applicant needs to be able to commence full-time employment on 1st June 2016. The post is available on a full-time basis until 31st January 2018; a 3-month part-time extension is available after June 2018.
