Postdoctoral Research Associate in Neural Systems Analysis

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research scientist who can work independently to help drive forward a recently established programme of work in neural systems and circuits funded by a strategic award from the Wellcome Trust.

The programme is based on a unique combination of Oxford strengths in NHP neuroscience and the current post involves conducting research into the neural mechanisms underlying control and decision-making functions of a network of interconnected brain regions centered on the frontal lobes, combining electrophysiology, lesion/inactivation/stimulation, MRI, and modelling approaches.

Under the direction of the laboratory head, the postdoc will be expected to develop their own project, contribute to the design, implementation, experimental testing, analysis, and write-up of a series of related experiments. Moreover, it is expected that the postdoc will be a primary driving force for introducing new analysis and modelling methods to the strategic award program as a whole and the postdoc is expected to contribute significantly, via collaboration, to the broader development and application of neuronal data analysis methods that may be applied to multiple projects led by other team members.

The postdoc’s primary responsibilities will be to implement a range of advanced multivariate analysis methods for analysing electrophysiological data recorded simultaneously from multiple electrodes in multiple brain regions (e.g. spike, multiunit activity, and local field potential temporal coherence etc.) during complex cognitive task performance.

Applicants should have attained, or be nearing completion of, a PhD/DPhil in psychology, neuroscience, or a closely related discipline with proven experience in analyses of simultaneously recorded neuronal activities. As well as competence in computer programming and the physical ability to work with macaque monkeys, you will have the ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative research team.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 20 April 2016.
