Research Worker

0.7FTE

Summary

We would like to invite applications for this 1 year, part time pre-doctoral researcher post. This offers an exciting opportunity to work on a project aimed at developing a new psychoeducation tool for people with autism and their families that will help them identify common anxiety symptoms and provide simple strategies for management.

Details

This project is funded by Autistica and takes place within a wider team who are exploring the role of co-occurring mental disorders among people with autism spectrum disorders. There has been some initial work on the psychoeducation tool and it now needs refining with further detail, extending to broader populations (adolescents and adults as well as parents/carers) and requires field testing in clinical and community samples.

The post-holder will work closely with a half-time postdoctoral researcher, the PI (Professor Simonoff) as well as clinical psychologists who assess and treat this client group, in developing and trialling the psychoeducation tool.  The post-holder will have major responsibility for data collection amongst research participants before and after the tool has been used to assess its ease of use, comprehensibility, and its efficacy in identifying and managing anxiety.

The post is ideally suited to someone with a demonstrated interest in autism, other mental disorders/psychopathology and developmental trajectories. The post-holder should also ideally have worked with children (ideally with autism or associated developmental disorders).

The closing date for receipt of applications is 9th December 2015

Interviews will be held on 18th December 2015

Equality of opportunity is College policy.

Salary

The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications, within the Grade 5 scale, currently £27,057 to £27,864, per annum plus £2,323 per annum London Allowance.

Post duration

Fixed term contract for 1 year.
