United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Director, Global SDG Tracker Initiative

The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.

We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.

We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 75 years, and are now active in more than 70 countries.

The Opportunity

In September 2015, Heads of State and Government adopted the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, creating universally agreed commitments for girls and women. Seizing this opportunity to advance global gender equality, Plan International and its partners are combining their strengths and global reach to build a trusted, independent annual assessment of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for girls and women over their fifteen year lifespan.

Leading and overseeing all aspects of this high-profile project, the Director will provide strong guidance in the development, implementation and early stages of a new governance model for the partnership and drive partners in the creation of the initiative.

Responsibilities will also include directing strategic planning and decision making, providing technical guidance, dissemination, data collection, ensuring donor compliance and effectively leveraging the partnership model. The Director will oversee an initial team of 5, including a senior leadership position around Data and Research as well as implementation roles in Advocacy and Engagement.

The Person

The Director must possess significant relevant professional experience, with a track record of successfully leading large-scale, multi-year projects, preferably in gender equality and/or development.

Uniquely skilled, you will have expertise in MDGs/SDGs, evidence-based policy change and data-driven advocacy and demonstrated ability to influence change at government level.

Strong leadership and management skills, creative vision and the ability to see opportunity in complex challenges and understand the value of reaching across sectors to build dynamic new partnerships are all essential requirements.

You must be able to commit to international travel of up to 30%.
