Data Scientist

Data Scientist £50,000 – £60,000 per annum.

reed.co.uk is seeking a Data Scientist to fill a newly created role within our team and help drive the development and competitive advantage of the UK’s biggest job site.

reed.co.uk is created by a dedicated and passionate in-house team, using ASP.NET and C# with SQL Server as the core technologies. We are now rapidly expanding our tooling and platforms to include technologies including Amazon Redshift, Looker, Apache Spark/Hadoop, Solr and Elasticsearch and other tools to enable us to better understand and interrogate our data.

The role:

This new role will help identify patterns and trends in our fantastic data, which represents nearly two decades of job seekers applying for and accepting new jobs, changing careers and joining new companies. If changing jobs represents one of the most important decisions of your life, then our data captures millions of these amazing transactions, every year. As an idea of the scale, every month, we have more than 7 million unique users, 16 million visits, 4.5 million job applications and 200k jobs added and these numbers are continuing to grow.

The successful candidate will be a data evangelist, preferably with a background in computer science, with good knowledge of statistical analysis, data processing and modelling of large datasets to derive new insights; presenting insights back to stakeholders, or developing prototypes of tools or learning models. A knowledge of RDBMS, NoSQL, text analytics and search is highly advantageous.

This role will suit candidates from eclectic backgrounds as we are primarily seeking an analytical and inquisitive mind. A passion for data is more important than specific technical skills as you will be working with experienced and deeply technical colleagues, some of which speak at conferences including the popular Strata Hadoop World.

This role is an excellent opportunity for a candidate seeking the opportunity to drive themselves with their own enthusiasm for the subject matter.

Your skills:

  •     Solid background in statistics and computer science

  •     Machine learning and data visualisation

  •     Proficient with relational and non-relational databases

  •     A self-starter, bringing your own creativity, enthusiasm and real world problem-solving to a highly motivated team

You will be rewarded with:

  •     The opportunity to quickly make an impact on an already successful team

  •     Amazing and passionate colleagues who excel in their individual disciplines

  •     Exposure to the latest new technologies and with the ability to bring more of your own favourites to the table

  •     A fantastic working environment, with colleagues that care about the quality and success of their products

  •     Up to 10% of your time to work on something other than your day job or to concentrate on your own personal development

  •     Oh, and there’s also free fruit and Nespresso coffee on tap, if you like that kind of thing…

If you can offer these skills and are passionate about the challenge of working with the latest technologies on one of the UK’s largest websites, we would welcome your application.

For us to consider your application, we require a cover letter explaining your suitability for the role, with some explanation of the projects you have previously worked on.

If you do not have the specific skills listed, but feel that you would contribute to the team, your cover letter is a great way to tell us more about yourself, and why we should consider you.
