About the role


Christian Aid is now looking to recruit an innovative and dynamic Egypt / Israel & occupied Palestinian territory Programme Officer for the Middle East team.


Christian Aid is working together with our partners in the Middle East to protect and uphold human rights, tackle violence and build peace and build resilient communities enabling people to secure their own livelihoods. The programme has a strong rights base, focusing on enabling people to gain control over their lives and to influence the decisions that affect their lives.


Working together with our partners in Egypt and Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory, as well as with colleagues from the wider Middle East programme (including Iraq, Syria and Lebanon) you will help develop innovative and effective programmes which result in significant impact on the lives of people living in poverty. You will be working on inclusive programming in areas including livelihoods and economic sustainablity, rights and tackling violence building peace, with a focus on target groups including youth and people facing displacement. Your role will support our partners to develop effective, participatory projects and approaches in their contexts and support them to demonstrate and communicate the change that results from their work.


About you


You will have a proven track record in developing and implementing successful development programmes and delivering inclusion-focused approaches, as will as applying innovative thinking to rapidly changing contexts. You will have experience of delivering and monitoring high quality projects, to budget and on time, and of meeting donor compliance requirements.


You will have strong analytical skills and an understanding of the drivers of poverty and its eradication in the Middle East context. You will have a commitment to working in partnership with civil society and church-based/ecumenical organisations and supporting the capacity development of partner organisations in areas such as monitoring and evaluation. You will have knowledge of emergency/humanitarian programmes including emergency preparedness and the links between emergency and development work as well as knowledge of the application of key humanitarian standards into programming.


With well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, you will have a proven ability to communicate with different audiences. Fluent English is required and a working knowledge of Arabic is preferred.
