Clinical Nurse Specialist - Gastro Intestinal
We are currently inviting a Clinical Nurse Specialist (with Gastro Intestinal Oncology experience) to join our prestigious team at the largest acute hospital in the UK!
The Wellington Hospital in London has an international reputation for outstanding care in areas of medicine including cardiac services, neurosurgery, liver Critical Care Services and HPB medicine, rehabilitation, gynaecology, orthopaedics and many others.
We work in partnership with Leaders in Oncology Care (LOC) – a leading specialist in the medical treatment of cancer patients. You will have access to some of the most sought after clinicians in the South and will have the opportunity to contribute your expertise to our diverse Oncology services.
Our fully serviced oncology suite at our Platinum Medical Centre is supported by high end cancer specific imaging, 10 state-of-the-art chemotherapy suites and a specialist oncology pharmacy.
Job Description
With the support from the Clinical Services Manager (CSM) and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) the, Adult GI Clinical Specialist Nurse (Oncology) will be involved in the planning and implementation of developments relating to Oncology nursing throughout the hospital.
This will require the post holder to promote professionalism among nurses and play a full role, participating in, and in some cases leading, nursing initiatives requested by or on behalf of the CSM and CNO.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as patient advocate from initial findings to survivorship and follow-up.
- Assess patients’ medical, social and psychosocial and other care needs
- Provide appropriate teaching, outreach, and education to patients and families. The aim of this work being to ensure the patient is empowered to manage his or her own health.
- Streamline appointments and paperwork by helping patients with scheduling appointments and preparation.
- Coach and help patients to remove barriers with issues of insurance, transportation, child care, financial resources, language so they may focus on getting the care they need.
- Initiate referrals to hospital and community resources to connect patients with resources and support systems.
- Conduct follow-up conversations as needed with all patients and communicate concerns, changes, or social needs in patient health to appropriate MD or other appropriate care providers.
Skills & Experience
- Registered Nurse Level 1
- UKCC registration and demonstrate evidence of ongoing education
- Post registration qualification
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification achieved or in progress
- Participation in professional organizations
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing (desirable)
- Extensive Oncology nursing experience
- Demonstrates high level clinical, technical and research skills through depth of knowledge
Desirable
- Experience in Programme development
- Experience as a CNS and / or patient educator in oncology
- Experience in leadership and customer service
- Evidence of Masters level learning or prepared to work towards
- Post-basic qualification in cancer/palliative care or relevant subject
- Advanced Communications Skills Training or prepared to work towards
- Recognised teaching qualification or prepared to work towards
- Research qualification
