United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Head, Emergency Response
The Opportunity
We are currently looking for a Head, Emergency Response to join us in our central London office. This is a great opportunity for a not for profit sector candidate with significant field level operations experience to lead our new Emergency Response unit, and help us deliver our ambition to be the humanitarian response organisation for children.
In this role you’ll support the delivery of emergency responses through our 60+ regional and country offices and manage the Emergency Response unit in London, along with the category 1 responses that are led from the London office. You’ll also create an environment of continuous learning within the Emergency Response teams, ensure positive relations with our members, regional and country offices and support the International Programmes Director and his Deputy with the implementation of our 2030 global Ambition and strategic plan.
In order to be successful you’ll bring proven experience of managing field operations across the full spectrum of programming, from humanitarian assistance to development; a demonstrated ability to thrive in a matrix environment and knowledge of international development systems, institutions and donors; of accountability frameworks and best practices. You’ll also have a high level of expertise in representation and negotiation with governments/donors and be willing to undertake international travel.
On a personal level you’ll have strong networking skills, a strong cultural awareness and a collaborative, engaging and thinking leadership style.

The organisation
In 2014 Save the Children responded to 130 humanitarian emergencies, reaching 4.3 million children affected by conflicts, disease outbreaks, floods and cyclones.
