Research Assistant

We wish to appoint a Research Assistant within the Autism Research Centre (ARC) at the University of Cambridge. This individual will work on EU-AIMS Longitudinal European Autism Project (LEAP).  EU-AIMS is the largest single project focused on autism in the world, and the largest project on any mental health condition in Europe.

The ARC conducts research into the causes of autism and Asperger Syndrome, and evaluates interventions for these conditions. The ARC is a research group within the Department of Psychiatry and its research takes place both within Cambridge and in collaboration with other universities. The Department of Psychiatry has been the top performing (quality) psychiatry group in the three most recent RAE exercises.

The Research Assistant will work with the Director, Research Associate, and members of the Autism Research Centre (ARC).

The Research Assistant will be responsible for day-to-day project administration, participant scheduling, behavioural testing, supervising MRI scanning sessions, managing data entry and transfer, updating project logs, maintaining ethics approvals, and some basic statistical analyses.

The successful applicant will have a good degree in Psychology/Neuroscience or related science discipline, together with knowledge of coordinating a research project. Strong organisational and interpersonal skills, rigorous attention to detail, time management skills, ability to work independently, and a strong level of competence in computing are essential. Understanding research methods (experimental design), basic statistics (e.g., use of SPSS), and skills in computer programming (e.g., use of MATLAB) would be advantageous. Experience of working with adults and children with autism and their families would be desirable. Understanding of neuroimaging techniques would be an advantage but is not essential.

Informal enquiries may be directed to Dr Rosemary Holt (rh465@cam.ac.uk).

The post will be appointed at the appropriate point on the University of Cambridge’s research assistant salary scale, depending on the seniority of the successful candidate.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check (enhanced with children and adults’ barred lists) and a health assessment. This appointment also requires a Research Passport application.
